Galena is a high alpha acids variety developed in the USDA breeding program in Idaho and released as a variety in 1978. It get its name from the ancient Roman term for the mineral galenite which occurs in the soils of Oregon. One of the most widely used bittering hops in the US. It is characterized by high alpha acids and a relatively high content of beta acids. Known as a bittering hop variety in the US, it is an excellent dual-use hop. This hop has a strong punch.

Cohumulone: 36 – 40 % of alpha acids

Humulene: 10 – 13 % of total oil
Caryophyllene: 3 – 5 % of total oil
Farnesene: < 1 % of total oil
